Harvest recording with the 83sigma evaluation device
The 83sigma indicator is ideal for harvest recording scales, as it has the ability to store databases. Furthermore, the user can easily scroll through menus and databases in plain text using the 2x20-character display. The indicator also offers the option of connecting a barcode scanner, (label) printer, and activating a data logger and an Ethernet interface. The device can be combined with many weighing platforms.

In our example application, for example, asparagus is to be harvested. The employees harvest the asparagus into a container. The full container is placed on the scale. The net, gross, and tare weight, batch number, date, time, field, crop type, and employee are recorded and the data is saved on a USB stick. Alternatively, the data can also be sent directly to a PC.
The following databases must be created in the device:
- Empty container weights (No./Name/Empty weight)
- Crop type (No./Name)
- Field (No./Name)
- Employee (No./Name)
We'd be happy to create the necessary databases for you and populate them with the required data. Alternatively, you can enter, edit, or delete the data using the 83sigma's keyboard.
There are several options for transferring the empty weight:
- Empty weight is entered manually
- Place empty container on the scale, press function key, select container from database and assign empty weight.
If a label printer is connected, a label with the empty weight can be printed and stuck onto the container.

Harvest process
Before harvesting begins in the field, the field and crop type must be selected and confirmed on the device.
- Place the full container on the scale.
- Press function key
- Select the container using the up/down arrow keys or by entering the number and confirm
- Select the employee using the up/down arrow keys or by entering the number and confirm
The net, gross, and tare weights, batch number, date, time, field, crop type, and employee are recorded and saved on a USB stick. Alternatively, the data can be sent directly to a PC.

Connecting a barcode scanner simplifies the entire process. It's then no longer even necessary to enter data via the 83sigma's keyboard.
To do this, barcodes must be created for each employee and container, which are scanned during weighing.

The employee then simply places the full container on the scale and scans the container's barcode and their employee number one after the other. This completes the weighing process.
If a USB stick is connected, the recorded data is saved as a CSV file and can later be imported into Excel. Alternatively, the data can also be sent directly to the PC via the Ethernet interface.
